Database generator

Postby EmPhi on Fri May 30, 2008 9:35 am

After downloading Infagon 5.0 and installing it I made a few facts and used the MS Access 2003 module to generate the VBA code for it. This code creates for each fact a separate table. Terry Halpin (ORM) wrote in his book "Information Modeling and Relational Databases" (Rmap procedure) that "fact types with functional roles attached to the same object type are grouped into the same table".

Question: Why is Infagon 5.0 designed to generate for each fact a separate table?

Did you run the GLR algorithm? The 'G-portion' of this algorithm groups facttypes.

Yes I used the GLR algorithm but that did not changed the model and the generator output has 3 tables. It is not clear to me what this GLR algorithm should do (no help). My model consist of one binary and two unary roles and two objects.

The G-portion of the GLR algorithm does exactly what you described above: "fact types with functional roles attached to the same object type are grouped into the same table".

Please refer to www.infagon.com sub menu 'About FCO-IM' for more information. The page 'Introduction' contains a quick tour that might help. An other source of information might be the article on FCO-IM that can be downloaded from the 'literature' page. The title is 'Fully Communication Oriented Information Modeling'. It is the third literature reference under the FCO-IM header.
